Bite the Dog
AKA Millsie's Hot Dogs, home of the best dog in Connecticut!
We are sorry to have to announce that we are retiring the hot dog truck.
The health department has come down on us like a ton of bricks this year.
They won't allow us to do dishes onboard, cook anything that needs to be refrigerated (in other words, no batch cooking of meat sauce, red relish or sauerkraut, each would have to be made daily and leftovers thrown away at day's end).
We can no longer store any paper goods, sodas, canned goods etc at our home but all
must be stored at our "base of operations" which is a diner in Canton.
We were told years ago by the same health department, that because our truck is a fully self contained kitchen
that the base of op was a formality and if we had a space solely dedicated for storage
(which we do in our garage) that we could use that but now it's no longer allowed.
They want us to do all dish washing, onion & peppers slicing etc at the base. That would be ridiculously
impractical for us and it is not what our friend Reno signed on for.
We are no longer allowed to get our water from the city water location we have utilized in Granby
but would be required to get it from the base.
We are not even allowed to wash the exterior nor interior of the truck at our home WTF!
This is all a real pisser, we were very proud of how clean and sanitary we kept the truck and the quality of our food.
We always got a top rating from our health inspector (who unfortunately retired last summer)
and he told us that we were the only place he inspected that he would eat from...food for thought.
Our biggest regret over all is that we will miss all of our customers so very much,
many of you have become like family and this breaks our hearts.
If you would like to keep in touch with Ron and I feel free to friend us on Facebook (Erin Mills)
